The Katy area is busy this week, starting out with a school board meeting for Katy ISD beginning at 5:30 p.m tonight. On Tuesday night, the Fulshear City Council will meet to discuss the development of Cross Creek Ranch. To round off the week, the Willow Fork Drainage district will host an art competition for KISD students.

1. The KISD board will meet Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. to discuss construction contracts.


The construction contracts include a contract to install new chillers on McDonald Junior High, Bear Creek Elementary and Stephens Elementary. Other work to be completed includes renovations to the Katy High School Career and Technical Education and athletics spaces, as well as an amendment to the contract with Anslow Bryant Construction for renovations to Fielder Elementary. The meeting will begin with a one-hour closed session at 5:30 p.m. and will continue with the open portion of the meeting to begin around 6:30 p.m. KISD board meetings are held at the KISD Education Support Complex located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.

The board also met in a special session Oct. 8 to review and discuss the development and implementation of the district’s Strategic Design Framework. The framework document is a master plan that the board and administration uses to set priorities to ensure all departments are working toward common goals like student success and program development.

2. Fulshear will hold a city council meeting at the Irene Stern Center this Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss the development plan for Cross Creek Ranch.


The council will consider approval of the Cross Creek Ranch general plan which would set the residential housing units in the subdivision to 9,000 units with 1,500 multifamily units. No limitations for commercial acreage have been proposed. The meeting will take place at the Irene Stern Community Center located at 6920 Katy-Fulshear Roas, Fulshear.

3. The Willow Fork Drainage District will host Katy ISD students for a plein air painting competition this Saturday.


The district and the Friends of Willow Fork Park will host the event for KISD students to paint outdoors in a plein air competition. Plein air is a practice first applied by 19th-century impressionists wherein the painter is outside creating art that reflects the outdoors while in nature. Willow Fork Park is located on the southbound side of the Grand Parkway between Highland Knolls Drive and Cinco Ranch Boulevard. Setup begins at 8 a.m. with painting from 9-11 a.m. Judging will occur from 11 a.m.-noon. If the event is rained out, it will be moved to Oct. 27.

4. The October edition of Community Impact Newspaper’s Katy edition will begin arriving in homes this Thursday.
