A coffee shop staple, the frozen mocha frappe at Serene Beans distinguishes itself from the competition with a fine quality, owner Karen Howard said.

The iced drink—which costs $3.88 for a 12-ounce cup and $4.38 for a 16-ounce cup—is made with Ghiradelli Chocolate, Lavazza Espresso, Ghiradelli frappe, whole milk and homemade whipped cream.

“We use top-quality products,” she said.

Serene Beans opened in October and offers more than 45 varieties of coffee, with both hot and cold options, including lattes and cappuccinos.

“We chose old Katy,” Howard said. “I didn’t want the commercialism. What we’re trying to do here is a coffeehouse feel.”

The shop at 1512 Avenue C also serves as an entertainment venue, offering a variety of leisure activities for the public, including live music and local artist showcases once a month.
