Fort Bend County transit riders can soon receive live route updates with a new notification system.

Zooming in

The Everbridge system, which opened for sign-ups April 28, will alert residents via text or email about transit updates for commuter and on-demand services, according to an April 23 news release.

According to the release, potential notifications include:
  • Weather delays
  • Route closures or changes
  • Other critical service notifications
The alerts are customizable when creating an account on Fort Bend Transit’s website, per the release.

“Communication is key when it comes to public transportation,” Perri D’Armond, transit director for Fort Bend Transit, said in the release. “This system gives us the ability to notify our riders immediately about anything that might impact their commute.”

The details

Fort Bend Transit—founded by county commissioners in 2005—aims to provide public transportation between Fort Bend and Harris counties via on-demand services and commuter park and ride areas, according to its website.

The commuter park and ride areas take riders from several parking areas countywide to the Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza and Downtown Houston on weekdays from 4:35 a.m.-8:45 p.m., per its website.

Fort Bend County park and ride locations include:
  • Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, 4310 TX-36 S., Rosenberg
  • University of Houston at Sugar Land, 14000 University Blvd., Sugar Land
  • AMC Theatre in First Colony, 3301 Town Centre Blvd. S., Sugar Land
Another park and ride location for the Westpark area located near Cinco Ranch broke ground last January, Community Impact reported. Construction on the $7.42 million facility is expected to wrap up this spring, according to its website.

Meanwhile, on-demand services operate Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with reservations required at least one day in advance, according to its website.

Looking ahead

The Everbridge system will begin offering updates May 5, per the release.
