The estimated $3.4 million Super Dave's All Abilities Park, located at 4200 Katy Fulshear Road, will provide accessibility for all children, including those with disabilities, Darren McCarthy, parks and recreation director for Fort Bend County, said in an email. The 1.6-acre park, which is the second all-abilities park the county is spearheading, will be funded through county parks bonds.
“Fort Bend County is prioritizing inclusive, accessible public spaces to serve a growing and diverse population,” McCarthy said. “All-abilities parks ensure that individuals with physical, sensory or developmental challenges can engage in meaningful play and social experiences alongside their peers.”
The details
The park is named in honor of local resident David “Dave” D’Andrea, who was a founding member of Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 169 in Cross Creek Ranch, McCarthy said.
McCarthy said the park, which will be accessible to all abilities and ages, will feature:
- Three play zones tailored to different age groups
- A splash pad
- A pavilion
- Fully accessible pathways
Zooming out
Construction began on the $1.27 million space-themed Galaxy All Abilities Park in Sugar Land, located adjacent to the county’s new Sugar Land Annex, Community Impact reported. The park is expected to be completed in October.
“Both Super Dave's Park in Fulshear and Galaxy All Abilities Park in Sugar Land share a core mission of inclusivity and feature accessible playgrounds, shade structures and engaging themes,” McCarthy said. “Their differences highlight the county’s effort to provide varied, stimulating experiences for residents across the region.”
Going forward
Fort Bend County commissioners are set to approve the interlocal agreement with Fulshear at a March 25 meeting. Following approval, the project is expected to be advertised for bid with late second or early third quarter, McCarthy said.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the second half of this year, with the park’s opening planned for mid- to late 2026.
