To help meet the rising demand for teachers as the area grows, Lamar CISD is holding a job fair for educators and other staff March 2 at Foster High School.

More than 20 new campuses are projected to open over the next decade, including four new schools this fall, according to a district news release.

What’s happening?

LCISD is the fastest-growing school district in the Houston area, surpassing local districts with 3,818 new home starts and 4,110 home closings in 2023, as previously reported.

The district used demographer Zonda to analyze growth trends and projections, which rated LCISD a “hypergrowth” district, meaning it has an elementary school zone that has between 150 to 300 new home starts annually, based on the January demographic report.

District officials expects the following growth in the next decade:
  • Continued development in 37 neighborhoods equaling 44,712 future home sites
  • Ongoing robust annual growth for next 15 to 20 years
  • An additional 2,135 new students each year, including 800 elementary students
  • Forecast enrollment of more than 55,100 students by the 2028-29 school year—a 39% increase from the district’s 39,579 students in 2023-24
  • A projected enrollment of more than 65,700 students by 2033-34
Quote of note

“The more we grow, the more we need good people to fill teaching positions across the district,” LCISD Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens said in the news release. “We are proud to develop leaders that inspire innovation and foster growth to support and celebrate every student’s success.”
