Lamar Consolidated ISD officials are reviewing options for rezoning as the district prepares to open Danziger Elementary School at the beginning of the 2027-28 school year.
Current situation
At an Oct. 20 meeting, the LCISD board of trustees received the proposed Danziger Elementary rezoning options.
The new elementary school, which is located in the Blue Creek Trails subdivision, is being built to help relieve enrollment pressure at Adolphus and McNeil Elementary Schools, said Jonathan Maxwell, executive director of enrollment management.
Additionally, the rezoning will help increase enrollment at Hubenak Elementary, which could become underutilized if its enrollment continues to decrease.
What are the options?
District officials are considering three options for potential rezoning:
Option 1: Danziger will be zoned in the current Adolphus and McNeil zones. The Long Meadow Farms neighborhood east of Hwy. 99 would go to Danziger. Portions of Fagert, McNeil and Adolphus would go to Hubenak. Parts of Terrell would be zoned to Fagert and Bentley would go to Frost. Much of Frost would go north to Adolphus. Brandt Road would be the boundary between Adolphus and Frost, meaning McCrary Meadows would split between those two schools.
Option 2: Danziger will be zoned in the current Adolphus and McNeil zones with Hwy. 99 acting as a boundary. The Long Meadow Farms neighborhood east of Hwy. 99 would go to Danziger. A large portion of Fagert would go to Hubenak and parts of Terrell and Bentley would go to Fagert. Westheimer Lakes would be split between Hubenak and Terrell. Much of Frost would go north to Adolphus and a small piece of Bentley would go to Frost. McCrary Meadows would still be split between Adolphus and Frost with Brandt Road acting as a boundary.
Option 3: Danziger will be zoned in the current Adolphus and McNeil zones with Hwy. 99 acting as a boundary. The Long Meadow Farms neighborhood east of Hwy. 99 would go to Danziger. Parts of Fagert would go to Hubenak, parts of Hubenak and Frost would go to Fagert and parts of Bentley would go to Frost. Portions of Frost would go north to Adolphus and take a small part of Hubenak. Brandt Road would act as a boundary between Adolphus and Frost, but this option does not affect Terrell Elementary.
Stay tuned
No action was taken during the meeting. The board will choose a zoning option and the members of the attendance boundary committee in November, Maxwell said.
Danziger Elementary is slated to open in August 2027.
