Dulles Avenue to be more pedestrian friendly

Dulles Avenue will see some pedestrian improvements in the next five years. 

What you need to know

At an Oct. 20 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved a nearly $642,000 design contract with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. for mobility improvements on Dulles Avenue. 

Renovations include constructing a 10-foot-wide side path on the west side of the street, building pedestrian bridges and connecting Dulles Avenue to Missouri City Oyster Creek Trail, per agenda documents. 

The details

The design process includes: 

• Project management

• Topographic surveying

• Creating a tree inventory and protection plan

• Creating design documents with construction cost estimates

The project, which is expected to cost about $3.48 million total, is funded through Sugar Land’s 2024 bond and the 2023 Fort Bend County mobility bond, according to the city website.

Looking ahead

Design is anticipated to begin in November and be completed in April 2028, per agenda documents.
