Looking for things to do in the Katy area this July? From a percussion demonstration to riding in hot air balloons, here are six events happening in the area throughout the month.

Strike, Shake & Scrape

Harris County Library’s Maud March Branch in Katy will host musician Mark Shelton for a lively one-man performance, where students will learn about the percussion family, including sounds of snare drums, rhythm bones, handpan and electronic percussion.

The Fulshear Regional Chamber for Commerce’s annual event switched venues this year to Abe & Lizzie Daily Park in Simonton. The Fourth of July celebration will feature live music from The Highwaymen, vendor booths, food trucks and a children’s area. Fireworks will begin after 9 p.m.Freedom Celebration

The city of Katy invites residents to Typhoon Texas waterpark for swimming and a fireworks show once the sun sets. This event celebrating Independence Day is family friendly.

The Original Wailers


Home Run Dugout hosts Grammy-nominated music group The Original Wailers live, from their rescheduled date in April. Tickets from the previous show will be honored. Parking is $20 per vehicle.

The Balloon Glow & Laser Show

Ride a hot air balloon or enjoy family activities at this traveling festival that stops in Katy for two days at Beckendorff Farms. The event features a kids zone with games and rides, including trains and bounce houses. Enjoy live rock music, a variety of food vendors and a laser light show finale.Frozen Party

Enjoy a movie on the lawn of Central Green at LaCenterra and cool off in the summer heat with the frozen party, which features snow cones, frozen mascots, face painting and a craft table for kids.
