Midpoint Bar and Eatery, a locally owned spot selling craft cocktails and elevated bar fare, will reopen in Katy, the owner said.

The backstory

Zack Kuru was one of the owners ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott to temporarily close the doors to his bar during the COVID-19 pandemic in summer 2020. He would permanently shutter the business in early 2021, he said.

But Kuru said he knew he would eventually reopen the bar, formerly located on 20920 Katy Freeway, due to Midpoint's consistent patronage.

"I always wanted to reopen because we had a really solid customer base," Kuru said. "I always talked about it—it was the customers."

The new location on Westheimer Parkway will be even bigger, at 5,000-square-feet, Kuru said. The new venue boasts a massive patio, a private room, a large bar and a much larger food menu, he said.

On the menu

Upon opening, Midpoint will have a bar menu of craft cocktails and an extensive wine list, Kuru said. On the food side, the menu includes burgers, salads, wings and appetizers.

Kuru plans to run a happy hour daily from 2-6 p.m., and the eatery will be open daily. Additionally, Kuru rehired the same staff Midpoint had when it closed.
