Katy ISD will conduct a full-scale active shooter exercise June 7 in partnership with the Fort Bend County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, local EMS, and fire and law enforcement agencies.
The exercise, which is taking place at Tompkins High School, will test the district’s emergency response plans and coordination with local agencies. A news release states the exercise will include emergency response vehicles, aircraft and audio effects of weapons being discharged. The release states live ammunition will not be used.
“Collaboration among agencies will ultimately lead to learning and further implementation of best practices for crises,” the news release states.
KISD is planning for a prospective $840.6 million bond package, which could include a proposition to bolster school security beyond the state’s minimum standards. The state recently passed legislation requiring panic buttons to all schools.
