While her most popular service is newborn photography, Kelly Richman said she created her photography business to serve mothers.

Richman grew up shooting photography as a hobby, but started taking it more seriously when she became a mother. After experiencing a traumatic pregnancy and birth, she said she realized how important documenting her family was to her.

“Sometimes moms come in for newborn sessions saying, ‘I look so fat, I look horrible,' and I get it,” Richman said. “But for me, those pictures when I came from the hospital, even though I looked huge, and I was swollen and fat, those are treasures to me, because that was a time I almost missed, and I can't get it back.”

Richman’s experience with motherhood changed the way she viewed photography and inspired her to pursue her hobby differently.

Friends, and then friends of friends, started asking for her pictures, and in 2014, she officially founded Lifetime of Clicks Photography.

What’s different?

As Richman’s business grew, she noticed how stressful planned shoots could be for mothers. She described seeing how often moms will focus on getting their family picture-perfect, but then have no time to get ready themselves.

This spurred her to create a walk-in closet in Lifetime of Clicks’ studio, where moms can pick out an outfit for themselves and for their kids, as well as get their hair and makeup done, before a shoot.

“Being able to just show them how fun it is and share that memory or that milestone means so much,” Richman said.

Additionally, Lifetime of Clicks offers custom framing services curated by Richman in the studio, and she even offers photo installations in clients’ homes.

Giving back

Richman said her current favorite type of photography is newborn photography, as it aligns with her love of babies.

“To be able to curl them up into those perfect poses, and then the parents are like ‘oh my gosh’—you just don't get anything better than that,” she said.

Richman’s passion for motherhood and babies led her to co-found the Katy Birth Network, a local nonprofit dedicated to improving birth, pregnancy and postpartum health outcomes in the Katy area.

As a nonprofit co-founder, business owner and mom of two boys, Richman said she knows how hard finding balance can be and reminds herself to take breaks to spend quality time with her family, because she believes families can’t get those moments back.

She said she’s proud of all the memories Lifetime of Clicks has captured in the past 11 years, and that she will keep serving and taking care of moms, because that’s what her business is all about.
