Abbie Kamin, Houston's city council member representing District C, is teaming up with the city and nonprofit Pride Houston 365 to host Families with Pride June 25 at Levy Park at 3801 Eastside St., Houston. The event runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

According to a release from Kamin’s office, the free event is a celebration of family and togetherness. Kamin said the event is being hosted at the request of her constituents, adding that she represents an area of Houston that is historically known for its LGBTQIA+ community and landmarks.

“Pride Month is something so many of our district residents, and Houstonians from all over, recognize and celebrate,” Kamin said in the release. “Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+, or as an ally, teaching the next generation about the history and beauty of Pride is a way to celebrate families and build a more inclusive future.”

The celebration will include family-friendly interactive activities and music; a Pride Library and storytime; a splash pad; face painting; a Pride Puppy parade; a civil rights history walk; and food trucks. Live performances will be given by Kinetic Vibez, Carver Aldine Dance Company, DJ MoHawk Steve and the Orange Show with Chalk Stang Art Car.

According to the release, the event will also have community support and multiple resources for families from entities, such as Legacy Community Health, Greater Houston LGBT Chambers of Commerce, Houston Public Libraries and Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus. The Houston Health Department will also be on hand to give families the opportunity to get COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters, the release said.

“I am so grateful to Pride Houston 365 for their partnership and support, along with Levy Park, our city departments, and all of our community partners and our district families that brought this idea forward,” Kamin said.
