River Oaks District’s Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
Houston residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon filled with cultural performances, artistry and family-friendly activities at The Park in the River Oaks District, located between Bari Ristorante and Dolce & Gabbana. Rice University’s official mariachi ensemble “Mariachi Luna Llena” is slated to perform, as well as Colombian and Mexican folkloric dancers. A curated selection of Hispanic-inspired treats will be served.

Tejano Queen Forever and El Turko Sonidero at the Plaza at Avenida Houston
Avenida Houston’s evening music festival will bring Tejano, cumbia and diverse Latin sounds to the downtown area. The lineup includes Selena tribute band Tejano Queen Forever, who will cover songs such as “Como La Flor” and “Amor Prohibido.” Houston-based DJ Edgar Elturko Chega, also known as El Turko Sonidero, is set to mix cumbia fan favorites among other works.
México en el Corazón
Discovery Green welcomes international touring company México en el Corazón to the Anheuser-Busch Stage for an outdoor showcase of traditional Mexican dance, ballet folklorico, regional costuming and indigenous traditions. Guests can enjoy the show with more than 70 performers while also trying an array of Latin foods from vendors throughout the park. Seating in front of the stage is limited, as RSVPing does not guarantee wristband access. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.
Movie Night on the Lawn: Selena
Film lovers are invited to watch a screening of “Selena” atop POST Houston’s rooftop park, Skylawn. The event is open to attendees of all ages, and food and beverage concessions will be available from the venue’s on-site marketplace. An RSVP is required.
Alejandro Meola at the Alief-David M. Henington Regional Library
Argentine-American musician Alejandro Meola will debut his new single “Viejo Teléfono” at a live concert Oct. 5 in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Meola’s song and accompanying setlist will feature a bilingual fusion of Latin, rock, blues, folk and world sounds. Admission to the concert is free and capacity is limited. Registration is required.
