The James Beard Foundation has teamed up with Houston First to bring back the 10th annual Taste America culinary series.

The event takes place June 29 at Silver Street Studios, 2000 Edwards St., Houston.

According to a news release from a communications agency working with the James Beard Foundation, Taste America celebrates chefs and local restaurants in the Houston community by bringing together people in the food industry from 20 different cities.

The 10-year anniversary event will also serve as the inaugural launch of TasteTwenty—a tasting that will bring together a group of 20 chef teams from 20 different cities, including several chefs from restaurants in the Heights, Washington Corridor and Garden Oaks/Oak Forest, according to the release.

“We are elated that the James Beard Foundation has chosen Houston to launch this exciting culinary series,” said Michael Heckman, Houston First Corporation president and CEO. “The diversity and depth of talent our chefs possess is something that brings us great pride, and this is a wonderful opportunity to share those tastes and experiences with a broader audience."

Houston’s food stations will feature local chefs including Michelle Wallace with Gatlin’s BBQ; Dawn Burrell with PIVOT; Christina Ha and Tony Nguyen with Xin Chao; Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu with KIN; Rebecca Masson with Fluff Bake Bar; Ruben Ortega with Xochi; and Kaitlin Steets with Theodore Rex.

Another featured chef from the TasteTwenty will be Cassie Shortino from Phoenix, the release said.

"By sharing [the chefs'] stories, we hope participants understand the importance of independent restaurants in their communities and are inspired to join our growing community of food lovers around the country who are dedicated to creating a more sustainable food system for all,” said Siobhan Flaherty Haber, vice president of events at the James Beard Foundation.

According to the release, the event will also feature multiple bars and entertainment from DJ Seek and Input Output.

Proceeds from the culinary series will go to programs within the James Beard Foundation, including the Open For Good campaign and participating chef restaurants.

General admission tickets are $175, and premier tickets are $225. Tickets can be purchased here.
