Houston ISD has released a draft calendar for the 2021-22 school year and is seeking feedback before submitting the calendar for approval by the board of trustees.

The first day of school for students is slated for Aug. 23, 2021, with the last day falling on June 3, 2022, representing a more typical school year after the 2020-21 calendar was disrupted by COVID-19. HISD began classes 10 days after opening Aug. 24, 2020, in order to transition to a virtual learning format.

The district has not yet said whether it plans to offer virtual learning in 2021-22, nor has the Texas Education Agency released any guidance.

HISD is also in the midst of developing a District of Innovation plan that could allow for an earlier start date than Aug. 23, but the final plan has not yet been brought before the board of trustees for approval.
