COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites run by the city of Houston are to remain closed Feb. 18 as the city faces its fifth day of cold temperatures, dangerous road conditions, and limited water and power supplies.
People who have vaccine appointments will be contacted by the Houston Health Department to be rescheduled. Those who had a vaccine appointment and were not contacted before power outages began should call the Houston Health Department to reschedule at 832-393-4220, according to a Feb. 17 new release.
The waitlist for vaccinations remains open to those over age 65 or those over age 16 with chronic health conditions or disabilities. To schedule, Houston residents can call the Area Agency on Aging at 832-393-4301 and leave a voicemail with their name and phone number. Only one voicemail is necessary, the release states.
Mayor Sylvester Turner told reporters Feb. 17 that the city's weekly vaccine shipment was delayed but would resume next week. The city is also still on track to see a vaccine mega-site from the Federal Emergency Management Agency open by the end of the month, Turner said.
