City records show permits purchased at the site—2101 Summer St., Houston—by Gulf Coast Distilleries, including a certification of occupancy permit and a story inspection permit.
Buffalo Bayou Brewing first took over the three-story location in 2019, but officials were locked out of the venue in January of this year with a notice was posted to the door calling on the tenant to pay delinquent rent. Shortly after, the brewery's CEO made an Instagram post vowing to return "in the very near future." No updates have been provided by Buffalo Bayou since that time.
Giant Texas Distillers, which bills itself as "the largest distillery west of the Mississippi," also operates a distillery and tasting room in Houston's East End. The company started as a coffee plant before branching out into the distillery trade in 2014, according to its website. In addition to Giant Texas Bourbon and BJ Hookers Vodka, the company also makes Tejas Beer.
Community Impact has reached out to Giant Texas for more information on their plans for the new venue.
