School of Rock, part of a chain that has been bringing performance-based music education to the masses since 1998, is coming to the Heights.

With classes such as "Rock 101," the business provides lessons in piano, bass, guitar, drums and singing. The school's grand opening will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 3 at 742 E. 20th St., Houston.

According to a Nov. 29 press release, the grand opening will feature a "ceremonial guitar smashing," a performance by the West University house band as well as an appearance by local artist Shelbi Nicole, a Houston-area artist and muralist. Additionally, there will be tours of the school, trial lessons, food, a raffle, t-shirt sale and face painting.

The school is run by owners Vivian and Hugh Scott and general manager Adrian Ramirez. The Scotts also operate the West University Place location.
