Free professional haircuts were offered to the homeless on Sunday at Leif’s Hair Studio, which is located on FM 1960 in Spring. The event, called S.W.A.C—Starts with a Cut—serves Houston's homeless by providing haircuts for those in need.

Sponsored by Bammel Church of Christ, Leif’s Hair Studio and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team, professional haircutters spent four hours volunteering their services to Houston-area’s homeless.

“The church has done a great job of rounding up volunteers and people to help, and Lieutenant Henry was instrumental in getting people together,” said Leif Christiansen, owner of Leif’s Hair Studio.

Christiansen said the idea was his former student Rachel Morgan’s brainchild.

“She called me up one day and said, ‘I have this thing I want to do—can you help?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I can help.’ So we kind of started putting it all together,” he said.

While the haircuts at Leif’s range from $60 to $100, the haircuts on Sunday were free. Freebirds World Burrito and Chick-fil-A donated food for the event.

“The church has done a great job of rounding up volunteers and people to help,” Christiansen said. “[HCSO] Lieutenant [Robert] Henry was instrumental in getting people together.”

While no events have been scheduled yet, the hair salon will be hosting more events similar to this in the future, Christiansen said.

“You give back, and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.
