The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy ended its two-week run on March 29, having more visitors and possibly raising more money for charity than ever before in its 70-year history, said Lynn Walsh, Pin Oak Charity Horse Show President.
"I think every year we seem to get better and better," Walsh said. "I think this year's event went great. We had a lot of spectators, a lot of sponsors; the weather was wonderful and everyone seemed to have a great time."
Nearly 30,000 spectators visited the show, not including the over 2,000 riders and their companions who competed in the show, Walsh said.
"We had a lot of spectators, about 6,000 per a weekend, and a lot of people who came during the week because it fell on spring break," she said.
The proceeds from the show will be donated to Texas Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and other organizations. The final tally has not yet been tabulated, but Walsh said she expects it will meet or exceed the organization's 2014 donation of $200,000.
"I would be shocked if we didn't beat last year's donation," Walsh said. "We really control our expenses to donate as much as we can, but we have to sit down and take all the money that we raised and do our budget for next year and then figure out how much we'll be donating this year."
The organization will hold check presentation ceremonies for the organizations it supports later this year, Walsh said.
