The Lone Star College System purchased property at 505 FM 1486—across the street from Magnolia West High School—to be the home for LSC-Magnolia Center, and it is expected to open in fall 2021, according to a Jan. 22 press release. The future campus will serve as a satellite campus for LSC-Montgomery, Community Impact Newspaper previously reported.

“We could not have asked for a better location,” LSC-Montgomery President Rebecca L. Riley said in the press release. “Being across the street from the high school and off a major thoroughfare will provide easy access for the residents of the community to continue their education.”

The $28.9 million facility, spanning 65,000 square feet, will feature classrooms, workforce labs and shared learning spaces, the press release said. LSC-Magnolia Center will also provide courses necessary for those looking to transfer to a four-year university.

"We are excited to have one of the Lone Star College centers in our service area,’ Magnolia ISD Superintendent Todd Stephens said in the press release. “We have been long-time partners with the college through their dual credit program and with the addition of the LSC-Magnolia Center, this will provide our students and the community with more opportunities, resources and career pathways for higher education and trades."

LSC-Magnolia Center is funded by a $485 million LSCS bond referendum approved by voters in 2014, Community Impact Newspaper previously reported. The college is currently located in temporary office space at 18423 FM 1488, Ste. C, Magnolia, where parents and students can access services, such as financial aid, admissions and advising, according to the press release.

“We have met with residents of Magnolia and the surrounding area to determine the best location for this new center,” LSC Chancellor Stephen C. Head said in the press release. “They have told us about their desire for higher education services in the community and I’m extremely proud that Lone Star College will be able to meet that need.”
