Development Updates Many of these commercial or residential projects were announced or in progress last year. Here’s what is happening now.

  1. In February, Houston’s First Baptist Church will begin construction on its Cypress campus, located on 32.4 acres within the Bridgeland master-planned community. The church will consist of 100,000 square feet of space and includes a 1,300 seat worship center. Construction is expected to wrap up in March 2017. 
  2. Memorial Hermann Health System will open its Convenient Care Center at the end of February off Hwy. 290. Construction is underway on the Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, and crews are currently building out the interiors. The hospital will open in spring 2017. 
  3. The first tenant at the Vintage Marketplace Restaurant Village, Pei Wei Asian Diner, will open in the second quarter of 2016. The 17,000-square foot restaurant complex will have the capacity to house eight tenants. 
  4. In October, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church celebrated the grand opening of its new 1,200-seat auditorium-style worship center at the congregation’s Cypress Campus, located on Cypresswood Drive. The building includes administrative and nursery spaces connected by a large, daylit lobby. 
  5. Cypress Assistance Ministries has selected a capital campaign committee to help raise funds for a new facility on Cypress North Houston Road. Last fall, the charity closed on the 40-acre tract of land that will house the new location. Renderings of the new facility will be completed by the end of January. 
  6. Development Updates Construction is underway on Cypress Park, Cy-Fair ISD’s new high school. The facility is a part a 179-acre site on FM 529 near the Grand Parkway and will open for the 2016-17 school year. The site will include transportation and agriculture centers, both of which are expected to open at the end of September. A school-based health clinic will open along with Cypress Park High School. 
  7. CFISD’s first stand alone Natatorium is under construction adjacent to Pridgeon Stadium off Windfern Road. The facility will house a new swimming pool and is expected to be complete by late 2016. Upgrades are underway at Pridgeon Stadium to the concession area, entryways, restrooms, press box and parking lots. 
  8. Cypress Christian School broke ground on a new campus life center and gym in December. The project is expected to take anywhere from 18-24 months to complete, dependent on weather conditions. The center will house a collegiate-size basketball court, volleyball court, tumbling and cheer space, full-size concession stand, retail shop, business offices and locker rooms. 
  9. Newland Communities, the developer behind the master-planned community Cinco Ranch in Katy, are continuing work on Elyson, a 3,600-acre community along FM 529 off the Grand Parkway. Plans for the community, which will open this year, include 6,200 homes, a commercial center, a community center, fitness center, cafe, on-site schools and a trail system. 
  10. Development Updates Construction will start in early 2016 on a Cypress location of Moviehouse & Eatery at the northeast corner of Fry and Tuckerton roads. The upscale dine-in movie theater will be the first location in Houston and will feature a menu of sandwiches, salads, burgers and specialty plates as well as beer, wine, cocktails and desserts. Construction is expected to wrap up by spring 2017.
