Daikin Industries will build a new facility on a 90-acre site west of Cypress.[/caption]

Daikin Industries has announced plans to build a $417 million facility on 90 acres of land west of Cypress near Hwy. 290 and about three miles west of the Grand Parkway.

The company, which manufactures heating, cooling and refrigerant products, also owns Houston-based Goodman Manufacturing. The move will allow Daikin to manufacture a full range of products in one state-of-the-art facility. Referred to as the "Comfortplex" campus, the project is the largest single investment since Goodman Manufacturing was founded more than 40 years ago.

"When Daikin acquired Goodman Manufacturing, the Houston market looked pretty vibrant," director of communications Rex Anderson said. "The city is growing, you've got a qualified workforce and the climate is conducive to manufacturing. All of those things combined made a nice package for us as well as having our corporate offices here in Houston."

When the new 3- to 4-million-square-foot facility opens in mid-2016, about 4,000 employees will be based out of the site, which will consolidate the company's manufacturing and logistics operations to one location.

Daikin aims to create energy efficient heating and cooling systems that are used across the world, and its products are applicable for residential, commercial and industrial uses.

"The new facility will also be manufacturing products that, up until when we start manufacturing them, previously had to be imported into the country," Anderson said.

Construction is expected to begin in the next few months on the site, Anderson said.
