In case you missed it
Recently elected trustees Lesley Guilmart, Cleveland Lane Jr. and Kendra Camarena were sworn in during a Dec. 11 board work session, marking the official start of their four-year term.
Voters approved the trio during the Nov. 4 general election, replacing former trustees Scott Henry, Natalie Blasingame and Lucas Scanlon, Community Impact previously reported. Scanlon did not seek reelection.
Shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the board unanimously elected trustee Julie Hinaman to serve as board president. Hinaman was first elected as a CFISD trustee in 2019 and is currently serving her second term.
“My primary focus is to build trust with our community [and] ensure the board works collaboratively to best serve the students, staff, taxpayers and stakeholders in the district,” Hinaman told Community Impact.
Additionally, the board elected Lane vice president and Guilmart secretary. Trustees Justin Ray, Christine Kalmbach and Todd LeCompte did not vote for vice president or secretary.
One more thing
Superintendent Doug Killian encouraged the new board to avoid partisanship and “find a common voice” to best serve all students and staff in the district.
Additionally, Killian recommended that the board consider a policy change allowing for officer reorganization more frequently than every two years to create more balanced leadership between board members.
“You are not representatives—you are trustees,” Killian told the board Dec. 11. “There’s a public trust that our community has put forth for all of you, and that trust is that you will be a trustee for all the kids of our district.”

The board will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Mark Henry Administration Building for its regular meeting, where it will take action on items discussed during the work session.
