- Officials behind the upcoming master-planned community Dunham Pointe are working on infrastructure with a plan to complete the construction by late 2019. Construction of a water plant is underway, and officials are also collaborating with Harris County to create crossings at Mason and Mueschke roads. Cy-Fair ISD officials are hoping to close on a 145-acre property this summer to develop a future elementary school, a middle school and high school as well as a transportation center. The community could bring between 2,500 to 3,000 new homes to the area once fully built out.
2. Lone Star College-CyFair’s new three-story, 130,000-square-foot Westway Park Technology Center is set to open in time for the fall 2018 semester at 5060 Westway Park Blvd., Houston. Services at the satellite campus will focus on information technology, visual communications and other corporate training; classrooms will be designed to mimic real-world industry environments. Officials set aside $6.2 million for the new facility in the 2014 bond, a construction contract was approved at the Dec. 7 board meeting.
3. Officials with Land Tejas said they plan to complete the Canyon West Lakes Amenity Complex within the Miramesa master-planned community in January. The recreation center will feature a junior Olympic-size swimming pool, a workout facility, a half-court for basketball and a splash park. It will be available to members of the Miramesa, Stone Gate and Canyon Lakes West communities. Land Tejas is also opening its last two sections of homes in Miramesa before the end of 2018, featuring homes from Lennar, Westin Homes and CalAtlantic Homes.
4. Work on the retail portion of the 15.5-acre Cypress Crossing—located at the northeast corner of Hwy. 290 and FM 1960—will wrap up in 2018. Although officials with Caldwell Companies, the project’s developer, said tenants have committed, no tenants could be announced as of press time. Plans for the development also include restaurant and office space.
5. Johnson Development Corp. bought a 1,600-acre tract of land in 2017 along Hwy. 290 west of the Grand Parkway known as Warren Ranch. Douglas Goff, co-president and chief operating officer, said homes in the community could be up for sale by 2020, when the project is expected to be brought to the market. Johnson Development has formed a partnership with the Texas General Land Office to acquire and develop the property. No other details on the project could be released at this time.
6. Cy-Fair ISD officials are looking into developing a 13-acre property under contract adjacent to Cy-Fair High School. Once the land purchase is complete, the district will own a total of 26 acres at the site. Chief Operations Officer Roy Sprague said officials are exploring options for future development of the tract, but voters will ultimately have to approve the district’s decision as part of a future bond proposal.
7. Officials with Cypress Assistance Ministries said they plan to break ground in early February on a new headquarters on Cypress North Houston Road near Barwood Bend Drive. The building will house the nonprofit’s services related to client assistance, the food pantry, job counseling, the resale store and other programming.
8. Oil and gas company AIV announced in September that it would build a 320,000- square-foot headquarters on NW Lake Drive, near the intersection of Telge Road and Hwy. 290. The office, which is expected to be completed in late 2018, will allow AIV to consolidate its existing headquarters on West Sam Houston Parkway with its other modification facilities. The new headquarters is located on a 32-acre site, which allows for expansion up to 700,000 square feet.
9. New tenants are expected to move into the Boardwalk at Towne Lake in spring 2018, including Torchy’s Tacos and World of Beer. A new building under construction near a recently completed parking expansion has gained several tenants as well, but officials declined to announce them as of press time. Officials with Basu Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery announced in December they will also open a 10,000-square-foot facility at the Boardwalk next spring, which will house an ambulatory surgery center for aesthetic plastic surgery patients.
10. Work is underway on the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department’s Station No. 13 in the Bridgeland area. The 19,000-square-foot station is located on a 2-acre tract on the east side of Westgreen Boulevard just south of the new Bridgeland Creek Parkway. The station will be equipped with a fire engine, ladder truck and ambulance and will feature five apparatus bays, living quarters, a training and conference room, work rooms, a decontamination room, fitness area and storage space. It will operate 24/7 and will be staffed through a combination of volunteer and paid fire and emergency medical personnel.
11. A new 50,000-square-foot Center for Science and Innovation will open in January at Lone Star College-University Park. The facility will include 12 science labs, an observation deck and a geology rock wall.
12. A new model home park featuring 20 model homes will be opening in the spring in Parkland Village, the newest neighborhood in the Bridgeland master-planned community. Officials with The Howard Hughes Corporation, the development company behind Bridgeland, said they also plan to open a recreation and exercise center around the same time. Officials have also broken ground on the 50-acre Parkland Village activity center, which will feature tennis courts, a swimming pool, an events hall and a nearby dog park. Once fully built out, Parkland Village will cover 1,200 acres of land and feature more than 3,200 homesites.
