Primary elections in Texas are conducted by both Democratic and Republican parties. Candidates within each party compete with each other for the chance to represent the party in general elections that will take place in November. Voters must register with either the Democratic or Republican party prior to voting and can only vote for candidates who are competing within that primary.
In the Cy-Fair area, voters will have the chance to choose candidates at the federal level—including for president of the U.S.—as well as at the state level and at the local level. Several U.S. Congressional seats as well as state representative seats and Harris County seats representing all or parts of the Cy-Fair area are up for election in 2020.
