Career history
Per the release, Dempsey has 25 years of experience in higher education having worked in various administrative and instructional positions at Dallas College from 1999-2021. Dempsey joined LSC in August 2021 as vice president of instruction at LSC-CyFair. Most recently, he served as interim president of LSC-UP.

Dempsey's appointment follows the departure of former LSC-UP president Virginia Fraire in June. Fraire, who began her stint as LSC-UP president in October 2023, succeeded Shah Ardalan who had served as LSC-UP president since the college's creation in 2012. Shah was named president of Randolph Community College in May 2023.
