Applications for the president position at Lone Star College-University Park will be reviewed throughout September as leaders work toward filling the spot by January, according to a Sept. 3 email from a college system spokesperson.

Virginia Fraire—who began serving as LSC-UP’s president in October—announced her departure on May 13, according to a Sept. 3 email from Chancellor Mario K. Castillo. Matthew Dempsey—the former vice president of instruction at Lone Star College-CyFair—is serving as LSC-UP’s interim president, according to the college system's website.

According to LSC officials, Fraire’s last day was June 7 and the position was posted June 17 for candidates to apply.


LSC officials declined to comment on the reason for Fraire’s departure.

Fraire replaced former LSC-UP President Shah Ardalan who was named president of Randolph Community College, as previously reported by Community Impact.
