New district boundaries for middle and elementary schools will be approved on Jan. 23.[/caption]
With new elementary schools, a new high school and a new replacement elementary school campus opening in the 2017-18 school year, Cy-Fair ISD is in the middle of revisiting attendance boundaries. In the
proposal presented to CFISD trustees Monday night, many subdivisions could be moving schools.
Pay attention to these six big shifts that could change where your student goes to school if approved on Jan. 23:
1. Jim and Pam Wells Elementary School splits Pope Elementary School's boundary. To populate the new elementary school in the Bridgeland area, the boundary for Pope would be cut in half.
The new Jim and Pam Wells Elementary would include the following communities, formerly zoned to Pope:
• Bridgeland Lakeland Bend
• Bridgeland South
• Mirabella
• Parkland Cypress Apartments
2. Janet Hoover Elementary School and Jowell Elementary School will change patterns, affecting boundaries for Postma, Andre, Walker and Rennell elementary schools.
The new Janet Hoover ES will open adjacent to Jowell ES and is proposed to split the existing elementary school population at Jowell by grade level. Janet Hoover would educate students in grades Pre-K through 2 and Jowell would take grades 3-5. CFISD plans to expand the two elementary schools' combined boundary to include the following communities currently zoned to Andre:
• Remington Grove
• Westgate, west of Creek
• Yaupon Ranch
Then, CFISD would switch Canyon Lakes West—both east and west of Fry Road—from Postma to Andre; Freeman Douglas from Postma to Walker; and Miramesa from Rennell to Postma.
3. Matzke Elementary School will finally reside in Matzke Elementary School's attendance boundary.
The Matzke boundary would encompass the following communities, currently zoned to Hancock Elementary School:
• Mills Crossing
• Tallow Wood North
Then, CFISD would move the following communities from Matzke to Millsap:
• Millridge Forest
• Regency Forest Place
• Regency Oaks Apartment
4. To provide enrollment relief for several elementary schools, many subdivisions are proposed to be rezoned, including the following:
From Moore Elementary School to Hamilton Elementary School:
• Hunters Valley Forest
• Lakewood Forest X East
• Western Estates
From Swenke Elementary School to Ault Elementary School:
• Fairfield South
From Keith Elementary School to Ault:
• Cypress Park, north of Hwy. 290
• Fair Meadows
From Ault to A. Robison Elementary School:
• Grand Cypress Apartments
• Villages of Cypress Lakes, southeast of Mueschke Road
From Owens Elementary School to Hairgrove Elementary School
• Weiman MHP
From Danish Elementary School to Bang Elementary School
• White Oak Bend
From Lowery Elementary School to Holmsley Elementary School
• Sommerall Park I
And from Holmsley to Lowery
• Fountains at Coppered
5. To correct the feeder alignment of middle schools, Millridge Forest, Regency Oaks Apartment and Regency Forest Place are proposed to be rezoned from Bleyl Middle School to Hamilton Middle School.
6. To account for Bridgeland High School opening, a number of subdivisions will be rezoned. Changes in high school boundaries are the only changes already confirmed and not waiting for further approval.
Students attending Cypress Ranch High School will be the most impacted. The following subdivisions will be rezoned from Cy Ranch to the new Bridgeland High School:
• Cypress Park, north of Hwy. 290
• Fair Meadows
• Bridgeland South
• Parkland Cypress Apartments
• Saddle Ridge Estates
• Bridgeland Lakeland Bend
• Avenues at Cypress Apartments
• Fairfield Ranch Apartments
• Bridle Oaks Estates
• Villages of Cypress Lakes South
• Lakes of Fairhaven
• Bridgeland
• Edworthy Farms
• Fairfield
• Fairfield North
• Fairfield West
• Fairfield South
• Schiel Road, east of Mason Road
• Mirabella
• Falls at Dry Creek.Cy Ranch's current freshman class is set to being realigned to Bridgeland High
School when they enter grade 10. Many residents spoke at the Nov. 14 school board meeting asking that families be given the option to remain at Cy Ranch if they want to.Trustee Don Ryan indicated that he would be interested in considering giving Cy Ranch freshman this option and making Bridgeland's 10th grade an open campus.Additional subdivisions zoned to other high schools will also be affected. You can read the full list of these changes
here.
If members of the public would like to make a comment on any of the proposed changes, they have until the CFISD board meeting on Jan. 23. On that date, trustees will make the final decision on new attendance boundaries.
Residents can express concern in public comments at board meetings leading up to this date or online
here. All public comments will be given to trustees on a weekly basis throughout the process.
