A total of 593 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Harris County on Aug. 27, including 290 in the city of Houston and 303 in Harris County outside of the city.
The daily new case total was below 600 for the second time in August. The seven-day average for new daily cases in the county dropped to roughly 863. Since Aug. 15, the seven-day average has been hovering between 850 and 1,000. The testing positivity rate in the Texas Medical Center remained around 8%.
Another 18 deaths caused by the coronavirus were confirmed in Harris County Aug. 27, including 13 in the city of Houston and five in Harris County outside of the city. The total case count now stands at 101,670. About one fifth of the cases are considered active at 21,788, while 78,610 cases are recovered cases. The death total stands at 1,270.
The number of COVID-19 patients in Harris County hospitals rebounded slightly after a drop on Aug. 26, but is still lower than where it was one week ago. The number of patients in general ward hospitals fell from 611 to 582 on Aug. 27, but the number of patients in intensive care units increased from 278 to 316.
