Harris County officials did not confirm any new coronavirus-related deaths May 26, including in the city of Houston, and public health officials have now confirmed five deaths total over the past five days in the county.
Meanwhile, total confirmed cases rose by 286 May 26 to 11,281 cases, according to public health data. A total of 4,479 of those cases are confirmed to have recovered while 221 people have died. Harris County has now confirmed at least 200 new coronavirus cases in nine of the past 14 days.
The number of suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Harris County hospitals has remained flat throughout the month of May, according to data being compiled by the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. An estimated 511 COVID-19 patients were occupying general and intensive care unit beds as of May 25, as compared to 479 on May 1, according to SETRAC data.
Of the estimated 1,628 ICU beds in Harris County, 1,284 were occupied as of May 25, according to SETRAC. About one-third of general beds—5,603 of the 15,334 beds—were occupied at that time.
