In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which flooded many neighborhoods along Cypress and Little Cypress creeks in Cy-Fair, many discussions have taken place on what needs to be done moving forward to mitigate future floods.

In its five-year capital improvement program, the Harris County Flood Control District is focused on buying flood prone homes, implementing detention basins and acquiring right of way for future projects in the Cypress Creek watershed. Detention basins are planned in the upper Langham Creek area and along Little Cypress Creek. No major projects are planned for the immediate future along Cypress Creek.

However, after Harvey county officials prioritized a regional study of all Greater Houston area watersheds to determine where funding should be focused in the future. Officials have also called for a third reservoir in the Cypress Creek watershed to alleviate pressure on the Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
