“You know, we are very blessed over here, and so we are super excited. Our other therapists have found other locations that they're going to. As the owner and the founder of Graceview Counseling, I just decided it was time for me to retire. So this is good news all around,” Sumrall said in a phone interview.
The details
The practice opened in 2013 through the Graceview Baptist Church as a small team and expanded into a recognized counseling center in the area, Sumrall said.
Specializing in treating individuals, couples and family mental health issues, the center offered services for anxiety and depression among others.
Sumrall said she previously retired from another location where she served as an interim children's minister. However, once she was brought to Graceview as an interim children's minister, her path led her to open the Graceview Counseling Center.
“Our original ministry is what we go by, which is to encourage one another and build each other up, to bear one another's burdens and to be that empathic ear that people can come to. We know that people are hurting, and we just wanted to be that compassionate place where they knew it was safe to come and talk,” Sumrall said.
Looking ahead
Therapists at the center have secured places to continue serving clients and will discuss future plans with its clients in individual sessions, officials said.
Sumrall said Graceview Baptist Church is open to renting the Graceview Counseling Center space to other organizations in the community.
“We're super excited about what God's got planned for us. My husband and I are looking forward to the next chapter of where we will serve God and how we will serve God,” Sumrall said.
