In a nutshell
City Council approved a contract totaling just under $600,000 with civil engineering firm HR Green to oversee design, bidding and construction management services for the water plant improvements, according to agenda documents.
The city inspected the plants in 2023 and included the improvement project in its capital improvement plan that year, officials said.
According to agenda documents, the total project is expected to cost $4.8 million for work across the three plants, including sump pump, electrical and chlorine gas feed improvements.
The water plant project is one of several utility developments funded by the $20 million bond Jersey Village voters approved in November, officials said.
Also of note
Council members also approved an $898,000 design contract with Quiddity Engineering to oversee rehabilitation of the city’s wastewater collection system, per agenda documents.
The sewer lines involved in the improvement project date back to the 1970s and 1980s and require repairs to reduce inflow and infiltration, limit future service interruptions and extend the system’s life use, city documents show.
The construction estimate as of Dec. 15 is approximately $6.2 million, not including contingency and inflation adjustments. Officials said voter-approved bond funds from 2023 will cover the project costs.
One more thing
Beginning in June, Jersey Village City Council will meet on the third Tuesday of each month after council members voted Dec. 15 to change the Monday meetings.
The next City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 12 in the Civic Center Auditorium at 16327 Lakeview Drive, Jersey Village.
