1. Angel Reach is a program serving kinship families and youth aging out of the foster care system as well as young people ages 16-24 at risk for homelessness. The organization provides housing, counseling, transportation, employment coaching and educational advising.

2. CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County• supports children •and families involved in the child welfare system. After completing around 35 hours of initial training, CASA volunteer advocates are assigned to one or two cases at a time and focus solely on that one child or sibling group and their family. CASA also has volunteer opportunities in fundraising, event planning and helping around the office.

3. Yes to Youth Montgomery County Youth Services• provides crisis counseling, intervention, and suicide prevention services as well as shelter programs for families and youths. The organization also offers a 24-hour crisis hotline. Volunteers assist by hosting needs drives, helping with events, groundskeeping, providing meals and spending time with youth at the Bridgeway Shelter.

Feed the hungry
4. Keep Us Fed Montgomery County• picks up extra food from local restaurants, •catering companies, grocery stores and event planners and delivers it to shelters, group homes and food pantries. Volunteers are needed every day of the week, usually in the morning, with commitments of 60-90 minutes at a time. Volunteers are also needed with photography skills, interest in equipment management and support, and providing a backup vehicle at donation sites. Prospective volunteers are invited to join a donation collection. Volunteers under age 18 are accepted only with a parent or older adult, but volunteers age 14 and older are preferred.

5. Montgomery County Food Bank receives, processes, packages and distributes donated and surplus food throughout the county. In fiscal year 2022, Montgomery County Food Bank served more than 53,000 people each month. Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, families and groups. Children ages 7-15 can volunteer with an adult.

Serve seniors
6. Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides meals to local homebound seniors. MOWMC provides pet food through the AniMeals program on a monthly basis. Volunteers deliver meals, help in the kitchen and assist with various office tasks. Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Help animals
7. At Henry’s Home Horse Sanctuary, volunteers care for horses in an outdoor facility, performing farm work and other activities. Individuals with computer, marketing and fundraising skills are also needed. The all-volunteer organization’s primary mission is to serve veterans, first responders and their families, but any volunteer help is welcome, founder and Executive Director Donna Stedman said.

8. The Montgomery County Animal Shelter offers opportunities to assist with dog bathing and walking, cat handling, on- and off-site adoptions, fostering and laundry. Volunteers can also help with administrative tasks or serve as a vet staffer, a surgery assistant or a photographer’s assistant.

9. The Community Assistance Center offers a variety of essential assistance programs from basic need services to long-term case management for individuals and families. The nonprofit organization provides disaster relief, housing services and a food pantry.

10. A nonprofit housing organization, Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County’s mission is to build safe and sustainable housing. Volunteers must be at least age 17 to help at the nonprofit’s resale shop, ReStore, and home repair volunteers must be at least age 18.

11. The Montgomery County Women’s Center helps survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault by providing an emergency shelter, legal services, crisis intervention programs, a 24-hour hotline, case management and transitional housing.

Support health & wellness
12. HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe• has •opened up its volunteer program again. The hospital is recruiting volunteers for its hospital greeter/way-finding and golf cart chauffeur programs. Volunteers age 16 and older are able to participate in the volunteer program; a volunteer program will also be offered during the summer months.
