Conroe City Council will discuss the potential sale of the Sam Houston Elementary School property during a Jan. 3 special meeting.

The background

City Council previously approved listing the elementary school for $4.3 million during a Nov. 14 meeting.

Prior to the building being listed in November, the property was set to be sold to Overland Property Group in 2024, but the company backed out in early February, which left the city with the building, Community Impact reported.

What else?

The city first purchased the property from Conroe ISD in 2021 with the goal of creating a space for performing arts for the city; however, the cost of the potential project was too high, Community Impact reported.
