The Conroe Community Cemetery, a Black burial site dating back to at least 1892, received a Texas Historical Marker. To commemorate the award, a ceremony took place on Feb. 15.

The background

In 2011, genealogist Jon Eden discovered the site and spent five years researching the cemetery’s history, identifying some of the individuals buried there and working with the Montgomery County Historical Commission, John Meredith, president of the Conroe Community Cemetery Restoration Project, said.
