The additional compensation will show up on employees’ June 5 paycheck, according to the district.
“I want to commend our MISD school board for this intentional act to financially support our staff as we await clarity from the state on school funding and the outcome of the current legislative session,” MISD Superintendent Mark Ruffin said via the blog post.
Remember this?
The $500 stipend comes after voters approved MISD’s voter-approval tax rate election in November, which secured $5.5 million in additional funding for the district through a $0.0425 tax rate increase. The added revenue has already gone to previous employee stipends and added positions around the district, as previously reported.
With the additional VATRE funding, the district named filling the budget gap, recruiting staff and student safety as top priorities, Community Impact previously reported.
Quote of note
“Just like the stipend issued in December 2024, the board has continued to challenge our team to evaluate our fiscal year budget to find a way to support our staff across the district. This stipend reiterates the impact of [Proposition] A and is a reflection of our deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our employees over the past year,” Ruffin said via the MISD blog post.
