The Montgomery ISD community has been invited to attend an informational meeting regarding a $0.0425 increase to the district’s annual tax rate, which will be up for voter consideration Nov. 5.

What you need to know

The voter-approval tax rate election—to be dubbed Proposition A on November’s ballot—would provide the district with $5.5 million in additional annual revenue. If approved, the VATRE would raise the district’s tax rate to $1.0912 per $100 valuation.

MISD’s fiscal year 2023-24 tax rate was $1.0487 per $100 valuation.

The town hall on Proposition A will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 23, and will include a presentation and question-and-answer session, according to a blog post from MISD. Questions can be submitted ahead of the presentation by visiting https://forms.gle/iKeeXSJvbe2yC3f6A.

Sorting out details

According to MISD’s website, district leaders have the VATRE money pegged for:
  • Filling MISD’s $4.3 million shortfall for FY 2024-25 general fund budget
  • Recruiting and retaining employees
  • Safety and security
  • Continuing student programs
As previously reported by Community Impact, if approved by voters, the VATRE would:
  • Cost a homeowner about $8.85 per month on a $350,000 house
  • Not increase taxes for voters age 65 and older
