Willis ISD updated its event policy to implement new safety policies for the 2022-23 school year, the district announced in August.

Effective Aug. 5, attendees are limited to clear bags for all sporting events, fine arts events and other districtwide events, according to the policy included on the WISD website.

Acceptable items include clear backpacks, clear totes and clear purses of any size, according to the policy. The policy also states bags are allowed to have color on the zippers and seams. Other safety measures being implemented includes metal detectors being installed at all entry gates to Yates Stadium.

The district previously announced funding an additional officer in FY 2022-23, bringing the district's total school safety officers to nine, Community Impact Newspaper previously reported.
