The Willis ISD board of trustees approved the addition of a ninth officer to its student resource officer team this summer, which was approved by the Montgomery County Commissioners Court at a July 26 meeting.

The district is investing $65,000 in the new position, which was approved following the addition of the eighth officer for the district in 2021, Superintendent Tim Harkrider said.

The money invested by the district is for the officer's salary and does not include other expenses—such as vehicles—the district will also have to invest.

“We are excited to bring another officer on board, and that's something that our board of trustees over the few years—as we are growing as a school district, we really want to continue to add officers to our force," Harkrider said.
