Gov. Greg Abbott announced March 16 he waived State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing requirements for the 2019-20 school year as the coronavirus outbreak forces schools to close.

Willis ISD Director of Communications Jamie Fails said the decision of the governor is correct for the current "unprecedented times."

"
This will allow districts to focus on providing our students and families with access to critical elements of the education system such as child nutrition services and a continuation of learning for our students," Fails said.

Representatives from Conroe and Montgomery ISDs have not responded to requests for statements from Community Impact Newspaper.
