R.F. Meador Branch Library in Willis is opening a Family Place, a space designed for families with young children to relax and play, according to a Jan. 15 news release from the Montgomery County Memorial Library System.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the library, located at 709 W. Montgomery St., Willis, on Feb. 5, according to the release.

The details

According to the release, the new Family Place will offer:
  • A five-week series of parent-child workshops
  • Collections of books, toys, music and multimedia materials for children and parents
  • Librarians specially trained in child development
The library will also partner with local family-serving agencies and professionals to help parents of young children build foundations for early learning, according to the release.

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission announced the R.F. Meador Branch Library as a recipient of the Family Place Library Project grant in 2024, according to Family Place Libraries.

TSLAC initiated the Family Place Libraries Project in 2015 to help public libraries ensure children enter school ready and able to learn, according to TSLAC’s website.
