The city of Conroe is preparing to move various city departments into a newly renovated office building on FM 2854 owned by the city, according to a news release from the city.

The city spent $1.37 million in renovations, and the value of the existing building is $4 million, according to the appraisal district. The cost of purchasing land and construction of a new building would have been about $10.5 million, Mayor Jody Czajkoski said in the news release.

"This is a win for taxpayers, a win for residents of Conroe who do businesses with the city and a win for city employees," he said.

The location will provide more parking and easier access in and out of the building and will keep related departments together, including room for growth, Assistant City Administrator Steve Williams said.
