VGXI held its grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 7. According to previous reporting, VGXI is a contract developer and manufacturer of nucleic acid biopharmaceuticals, such as DNA vaccines and RNA medicines.

According to President and CEO Young Parks, the company began looking to move seven years ago and received multiple opportunities before deciding on Conroe. According to the Conroe Economic Development Council, having VGXI in Conroe allows for more job growth opportunities within the biopharmaceuticals field in the growing city.

According to previous reporting, the company was originally based in The Woodlands, and in August 2020, the business announced it would be relocating to Conroe after purchasing land. The headquarters is at Deison Technology Park in Conroe and spans 21 acres.

The Oct. 7 ceremony consisted of remarks from Chief Operating Officer Dorothy Peterson; Parks; Ahn Myung Soo, the consul general to the Republic of Korea in Houston; and CEO of BE&K Frank Holley.

“VGXI is my family, and we would like to [see] our family grow much bigger than what we are today,” Parks said. “I am really touched. ... We are really thankful.”

During remarks, Young mentioned the possibility for expansion in upcoming years.

“We currently own half of a circle [of land],” Parks said. “We have the option to purchase the other half, and we intend to exercise that option sometime next year.”
