With the rising popularity of cake decorating, Cake Craft Shoppe caters to a diverse clientele of cake decorators in Sugar Land, including professionals and hobbyists.

Cake Craft Shoppe opened in 2000—having served cake-decorating professionals and newcomers for 15 years—and has grown from an online store to a warehouse for all things cake. From baking pans to fondant and gum paste tools, Cake Craft Shoppe found its niche in providing professional-grade cake-decorating and baking supplies, such as Wilton and Knightsbridge PME, co-owner Cynthia Adams said.

"We have people who have been in cake-decorating for years who come in because they know we carry that specific mold or something their going to need," Adams said. "Just like any hobby it goes way beyond the basic cake decorating."

Co-owners Adams and Sheila Brooks partnered in 2006 and said they have seen Cake Craft Shoppe expand as the city of Sugar Land continues to grow.

"Over the years we have just grown and grown," Adams said.

Adams and Brooks relocated Cake Craft Shoppe in 2006 and 2011 after outgrowing their first two locations. Cake Craft Shoppe eventually settled into the Williams Trace Shopping Center on Hwy. 6 and houses three classrooms and a commercial baking kitchen. Each classroom can hold up to 20 students at a time, Adams said.

Although Cake Craft Shoppe is not a bakery, customers are able to utilize the commercial bakery kitchen to cook cakes for various farmers markets and other events in the Houston area, Adams said.

Cake Craft Shoppe offers more than 20 different cake-decorating classes ranging from beginner's courses to professional-grade courses. Adams or Brooks run each class with additional guest lecturers. To teach classes Adams said she and Brooks must be certified through Knightsbridge PME—a London-based manufacturer of cake-decorating products.

Adams said she has seen former students open bakeries throughout Sugar Land and in the Greater Houston area.

"We have seen so many bakeries [open] from Pearland, to Friendswood and Katy; people come here to start here as a beginner course and end up having a shop," she said. "That is very rewarding to see that."

With more than 20 years of cake-decorating experience, Adams said she has expanded her name, as well as Cake Craft Shoppe's brand, in the cake world as a renowned decorator and a winner of TLC's "Ultimate Cake Off" in 2012.

"It was a great experience," Adams said. "People still see [the episode], and they will call and come in to take classes because of that."

Adams said she is not expecting to further expand Cake Craft Shoppe or open a second location. However, she said she wants to continue to compete in competitions throughout the world and continue to teach cake-decorating classes to newcomers and seasoned professionals.

"I hope to be doing this until I am old," she said. "People are always going to want cake and want to learn how to do it themselves. I hope to do it for a long time."
