A couple of College Station playgrounds will soon be shut down for renovations.
The gist
Bee Creek and W.A. Tarrow parks will be getting makeovers starting in late April with funds approved at a February City Council meeting. The city hopes to have the playgrounds reopened before the end of May.
In a city blog post, the two parks were said to have “heavily used and worn-out equipment,” with officials stating they needed a refresh, which is anticipated to total almost $440,000.
What you need to know
Bee Creek Park, located at 1900 Anderson St., College Station, will have two separate playgrounds. One will be for children ages 2-5 and the other for 5-12. The playgrounds will feature climbers, a spiral slide and a bee panel, among other features. It will also have “fall zones,” which are covered in bonded rubber. One thing staying the same is the existing shade cover and swings.
At W.A. Tarrow Park, located at 107 Holleman Drive, this playground is made for children ages 5-12. It will feature a serenity spot, an accessible swing and fall zones, to name a few. Existing mature trees provide a natural canopy for shade.

In total, $398,482 in funds were approved in a contract with Fun Abounds, plus the city’s contingency fund of $39,848. The total budget is $438,330.
