Construction crews working on a paving and drainage improvement project along Buffalo Speedway will begin the installation of brick pavers at the University Boulevard intersection Jan. 3, necessitating a traffic shift.

The work will be completed in two steps, according to a Dec. 28 update from the city of West University Place, which is overseeing the project. Each step will last roughly one week.

The first step will involve shifting traffic on Buffalo Speedway to the west side of the roadway with drivers only able to travel southbound.

Drivers traveling eastbound on University Boulevard will also be detoured around the intersection during this step. Drivers will be detoured north along Rutgers Avenue, east along Rice Boulevard and south along Belmont Street back to University.

During the second step, Buffalo Speedway drivers will be shifted to the east, and the road will remain traveling only in the southbound direction.

Drivers traveling west on University Boulevard during this step will be redirected along a similar detour as eastbound drivers in the prior step, going north along Belmont, west along Rice and south along Rutgers.
