The intersection is expected to reopen in two to three weeks, depending on weather conditions, according to estimates provided by the city. During the closure, crews will work on excavating the road prior to putting down new pavement as part of Phase 3 of the project.
Meanwhile, several other previously closed sections of the road are expected to reopen within the coming days.
The east side of the intersection of Duke Street and Buffalo Speedway will reopen Nov. 8; the east side of the intersection of Carnegie Street and Buffalo Speedway will reopen Nov. 9; and the east side of the intersection of University Boulevard and Buffalo Speedway will reopen Nov. 11.
Phase 3 of the Buffalo Speedway project spans from West Holcombe Street to Amherst Street and is the final segment of the broader project that crews will work on before its projected completion in 2023.
The overall Buffalo Speedway project involves making improvements between Wroxton Road and Gramercy Street at a cost of $23 million, which is funded in part by the city and in part by the Texas Department of Transportation and federal grants.
