Council members unanimously approved the $2.4 million construction contract in April for the Milton Street Water Line Project with ISJ Underground Utilities LLC. The project will replace dated cast iron pipes in order to reduce the risks of leaks or breaks that will improve how the city distributes water, according to city officials.
The details
“This would allow the city some flexibility in terms of water tank location,” Mayor Pro Tem John Montgomery said.
The project has at least 2,400 linear feet of cast iron water line pipes, a length that spans more than six football fields, that will be updated to PVC pipes and includes updating water lines from the Milton Street water plant to Mercer Street. Construction is expected to take nine months, as previously reported in Community Impact.
Zooming out
West U previously received $2.5 million in federal funding geared directly to the project in August 2023.
